West Ham United has announced the signing of Argentine defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer. The 30-year-old joins the Hammers after spending four-and-a-half seasons with LaLiga side Real Betis, bringing a wealth of experience and international accolades to the London Stadium.


Rodriguez expressed his excitement about joining West Ham, stating, "Playing in the Premier League is every footballer's dream, and I was thrilled when I heard about the club's interest in me." He also mentioned his reunion with former Club America teammate Edson Alvarez, saying, "We're both looking forward to working together again."


Guido Rodriguez: A Seasoned Professional


Born in Buenos Aires on April 12, 1994, Rodriguez began his professional career with River Plate in 2014. He later moved to Mexican side Club Tijuana in 2016 and then to Club America in 2017. Rodriguez has earned 30 caps for Argentina since his international debut in 2017, winning the Copa America in 2021 and 2024, as well as the FIFA World Cup in 2022. During his time with Real Betis, he made over 170 appearances and won the Copa Del Rey in 2021/22.


West Ham's Summer Transfer Activity


Rodriguez joins a list of summer arrivals at West Ham, including striker Niclas Fullkrug, wingers Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme, goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, and defender Maximilian Kilman. The club has also bid farewell to defenders Angelo Ogbonna, Ben Johnson, and Thilo Kehrer, as well as midfielders Said Benrahma and Flynn Downes.


Potential Debut and Upcoming Fixtures


West Ham's final pre-season friendly is against Celta Vigo at London Stadium on August 10. The Hammers will begin their Premier League campaign at home to Aston Villa on Saturday, August 17.
