Aston Villa have announced the signing of midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton. The 22-year-old becomes Villa's eighth recruit of the summer transfer window.
Onana's Football Journey
Born in Dakar, Senegal, Onana moved to Belgium at the age of 11 and began his football career with Anderlecht, RWS Bruxelles, and Zulte Waregem. He joined German club Hoffenheim in 2018 and later played for Hamburg and Lille, making an instant impact with 42 appearances in his debut season.
International Career
Onana has been capped at various youth levels for Belgium and earned his first senior international cap against the Netherlands in June 2022. He has since made 17 appearances for the senior team.
Transfer Details
Onana signed for Everton on a five-year deal in August 2022 and made 63 appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He joins Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee and will link up with his new teammates for the club's pre-season tour of the United States.
Why Onana Will be More Than an Enforcer for Villa
Standing at 6ft 4in, Onana will bolster Unai Emery's midfield options with his technical skills, speed, and strength in tackling. He is expected to play a key role in Villa's Premier League campaign, which begins on August 17 against West Ham United.
