Arsenal Sign Defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna

Arsenal have completed the signing of 22-year-old defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna on a long-term contract. Calafiori, who impressed in the 2023/24 season, will wear the No 33 shirt and becomes Arsenal's third signing of the summer.

Manager Mikel Arteta praised Calafiori's skills and character, stating, "Riccardo is a big personality and character, with specific skills which will make us stronger as we push to win major trophies." Arteta also highlighted Calafiori's impressive development in recent seasons, both with Bologna and Italy.

Calafiori's Background and Versatility

Born in Rome, Calafiori is a product of the Roma academy and made his professional debut in 2020. He initially played as a left-back before switching to a centre-back role at Basel, where he excelled and earned a return to Serie A with Bologna. Calafiori's experience playing in multiple positions has established him as a versatile defender.

Calafiori's Strengths and International Experience

Calafiori is comfortable in possession and registered five assists for Bologna last season, showcasing his ability on the ball. He also made his international debut for Italy at Euro 2024, highlighting his growth and potential.

Arsenal's Pre-Season and Upcoming Matches

Arsenal continue their pre-season preparations against Liverpool on August 1, before starting their Premier League campaign at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 17.
