Southampton Football Club is thrilled to announce the permanent signing of midfielder Flynn Downes from West Ham United. Downes has signed a four-year contract with the Saints, following a successful loan spell last season that saw the team secure promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
The 25-year-old made 37 appearances for the Men's First Team in the 2023/24 campaign, playing a crucial role in the team's success. Manager Russell Martin expressed his delight at bringing Downes back to the club, highlighting his influential performances on and off the pitch.
Downes himself expressed his excitement at joining the Saints permanently, praising the club's genuine and special atmosphere. He stated that he feels a strong connection with the team and is eager to settle in and help the team succeed in the Premier League.
The signing of Downes is a significant boost for Southampton as they prepare for their return to the Premier League. His technical excellence, physicality, and athleticism will undoubtedly be an asset to the team.
The Saints will begin their pre-season training camp in Spain next week, where Downes will join up with his teammates. The team has also announced their home pre-season games against Lazio and Getafe, as well as the launch of their new home and away kits for the 2024/25 season.
