 Van Nistelrooy Returns to Manchester United as Assistant Manager

Manchester United has announced the return of former player Ruud van Nistelrooy as assistant manager, working under Erik ten Hag. Van Nistelrooy, who played for the club from 2001 to 2006, has signed a deal until June 2026. Rene Hake has also joined the coaching staff.

Ten Hag expressed his delight at the addition of Van Nistelrooy and Hake, stating that they bring a wealth of experience and new energy to the team. Van Nistelrooy had a successful playing career at Manchester United, scoring 95 goals in 150 league appearances and winning the league title, Player of the Season award, and Golden Boot in 2002/03.

After retiring in 2012, Van Nistelrooy began his coaching career as an assistant for the Dutch national team and later worked at PSV Eindhoven, winning the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield. He expressed his admiration for Dutch coaches, including Ten Hag, and is eager to continue learning and improving as a coach.

Hake, an experienced coach with five clubs in the Netherlands, has also joined the Manchester United coaching staff. He recently departed Go Ahead Eagles, where Ten Hag's management career began.

Manchester United also announced the departure of Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy, who joined the club with Ten Hag in 2022. Ten Hag paid tribute to their service and wished them well in their future endeavors.
