Unai Emery Signs New Five-Year Contract with Aston Villa

Aston Villa has officially announced that Unai Emery has signed a new five-year contract with the club, solidifying his commitment until 2029. This extension follows a remarkable turnaround under Emery's leadership, which began when he took over in October 2022. 

 Emery’s Impact on Aston Villa

Since taking the helm, Emery has overseen a significant transformation at Villa. Upon his appointment, the team was struggling in 17th place with just nine points from 11 matches, barely escaping the relegation zone on goal difference. Emery's first game in charge on 6 November 2022 saw Villa secure a crucial 3-1 victory over Manchester United. 

Under Emery’s guidance, Villa’s performance dramatically improved, with the team losing only six of their remaining 24 matches in the 2022/23 season. This momentum carried into the following season, culminating in Villa securing a fourth-place finish and earning a spot in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history.

 Key Achievements

One of the standout moments of Emery's tenure was a home victory against Manchester City, where Villa won 1-0. In this match, Villa restricted the champions to just two shots on target, both in the opening 15 minutes, while amassing 22 attempts on goal themselves – the most City had conceded in a Premier League match under Pep Guardiola at that time.

Villa also completed a league double over Arsenal, defeating them 1-0 at home and 2-0 away at the Emirates Stadium. Another notable achievement was a 15-match home winning streak starting with a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace on 4 March 2023. This run is one of the longest in Premier League history.
