Chelsea Star Wins 2023/24 Prize After Stunning Season Including 22 Goals and 10 Assists

Cole Palmer has been voted the Hublot 2023/24 Young Player of the Season.

Attacking midfielder Cole Palmer has had an outstanding campaign since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last summer. Palmer, who turned 22 last week, has been pivotal for Chelsea, significantly contributing to their offensive play.

Impressive Stats

Palmer has scored or assisted in 32 goals this season, making him the joint-highest in the Premier League. His contributions include:

- 22 goals, placing him as the league's second-highest scorer, just behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in the Castrol Golden Boot race.

- 10 assists, ranking joint-second in the league, three assists behind Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins in the Castrol Playmaker race.

 Historic Achievements

Palmer is only the third player in Premier League history to reach 30+ goal involvements in a season while aged 21 or younger, following in the footsteps of Robbie Fowler and Chris Sutton. He has also matched the legendary Chelsea records set by Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard, scoring 16 home Premier League goals in a season. Palmer has a chance to break this record in Chelsea's final match against AFC Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Award Recognition

This marks the first time a Chelsea player has won the Hublot Young Player of the Season award since its inception in the 2019/20 season. Palmer's outstanding performance has not only earned him this accolade but also positioned him as a contender for the EA SPORTS Player of the Season award. If he wins, he will be only the second player to secure both awards in the same campaign, following Erling Haaland’s achievement in the 2022/23 season.

The EA SPORTS Player of the Season award will be announced at 11:00 BST on Saturday, 18 May. Palmer tops a shortlist of eight nominees who were aged 23 or younger at the start of the season. The winners are decided by combining votes from the public and a panel of football experts.
