Matz Sels Joins Nottingham Forest | Goalkeeper Boost for Nuno
Nottingham Forest has secured the services of former Newcastle United goalkeeper Matz Sels from French club Strasbourg. The 31-year-old Belgium international has inked a contract until the summer of 2027, marking Forest's third addition in the January transfer window. Sels will don the No. 26 shirt during his tenure with the club.
His arrival bolsters Nuno Espirito Santo's goalkeeper options, complementing the existing lineup of Matt Turner, Odysseas Vlachodimos, and Wayne Hennessey, all of whom have featured in the Premier League this season. Sels initiated his career at Lierse before transitioning to Gent in 2014. In 2016, he moved to Newcastle, making nine league appearances before embarking on a loan stint with Anderlecht. Subsequently, he joined Strasbourg in 2018, amassing 164 league appearances, including 19 this season. Sels earned his international debut in 2021, representing Belgium on six occasions.
He aims to make his Forest debut against AFC Bournemouth on Sunday. Additionally, in other transfer developments, goalkeeper Ethan Horvath and midfielder Orel Mangala have permanently departed Forest, joining Cardiff City and Lyon, respectively.
