Valentin Barco Joins Brighton | Exciting Argentine Talent Signs Long-Term Deal
Brighton & Hove Albion has completed the signing of Argentine Under-21 talent Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors. The 19-year-old, known for his versatility as a left-back or winger, has secured a four-and-a-half-year deal, marking Brighton's first addition in the January transfer window.
Brighton's Technical Director, David Weir, expressed the club's longstanding admiration for Barco, highlighting his progress both domestically and internationally. Weir welcomed Barco and anticipated his development under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Primarily playing on the left side, Barco's flexibility extends to full-back, wing-back, and winger positions. Weir emphasized Barco's exciting potential while acknowledging the importance of allowing him time to settle into the new surroundings and the challenges of the Premier League.
Barco has accumulated 35 appearances for Boca Juniors since his debut in 2021, notably contributing to their journey to the Copa Libertadores final, where they faced a 2-1 defeat against Fluminense in November. Widely regarded as one of football's promising talents, Barco follows the footsteps of previous South American transfers to Brighton, including Pervis Estupinan, Igor Julio, and Facundo Buonanotte.
