USA Triumphs 5-0 Over Mexico: 2023 Concacaf Beach Soccer Champions
On May 14, 2023, the U.S. Men’s Beach Soccer National Team secured a resounding 5-0 victory over Mexico in the final of the 2023 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship. This triumph marked the USA's third confederation championship, a significant achievement notched for the first time since 2013.
Having already secured a spot in the 2024 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup by defeating El Salvador 5-2 in the preceding day's semifinal, the USA showcased a remarkable performance against Mexico. This noteworthy display came just a month after suffering a narrow 4-3 loss to El Trí in the Acapulco Cup.
The scoring commenced a little over two minutes into the match when Gabe Silveira's impressive long-distance strike eluded Mexico's goalkeeper, Gabriel Macias. Although the first period remained closely contested, the USA steadily expanded its lead towards the conclusion of the second frame.
With 2:48 left on the clock, Ricardo Carvalho orchestrated a well-executed play, delivering a ball forward for Nick Perera, the USA's all-time leading goal scorer, who skillfully poked it past Macias. A mere 27 seconds later, Carvalho seized an opportunity by dispossessing a Mexico defender and firing home, extending the lead to 3-0.
Unwilling to settle for a defensive approach, the USA added two more goals in the third period. With five minutes remaining, Alessandro Canale's precision in a free-kick from 25 yards found the back of the net inside the right post. Shortly after, with just under three minutes on the clock, Canale strategically played a long ball out of the back to Silveira, who secured his second goal of the match, sealing the victory at 5-0.
This dominant 5-0 result not only clinched the USA's third Concacaf Beach Soccer crown but also stands as their largest margin of victory against Mexico in any senior-level competition.
