Marcelino Returns: Villarreal's Managerial Revival
Villarreal announced on Monday that Marcelino has been appointed as the new manager, succeeding Jose Rojo Martin, also known as 'Pacheta.' Rojo Martin left the club just two months after assuming the managerial role, and the team was led by Director of Football Miguel Angel Tena in their recent 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
Marcelino, who previously managed Villarreal from 2013 to 2016, has signed a contract that extends until 2026. During his previous tenure, he successfully guided Villarreal to three top-six finishes and a semi-final in the Europa League in his last season. The 58-year-old manager, having most recently coached Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille, brings a wealth of experience to the club.
As of now, Villarreal holds the 14th position in LaLiga, accumulating 12 points from 13 matches. Their upcoming fixture is against Osasuna, who currently occupies the 12th position, scheduled for November 26th.
