Inka Grings Departs Swiss Women's Team Amid Disappointing Results
The Swiss Women's National Team has announced the departure of manager Inka Grings due to a string of unsatisfactory results, as confirmed by the Swiss Football Association (SFA). Despite Inka Grings, the 45-year-old German, taking the helm in January, the team faced disappointment with an exit from the Women's World Cup in the round of 16 and a recent series of four winless matches, including a significant 7-1 defeat to world champions Spain.
In a statement on Thursday, Grings expressed her decision with a sense of responsibility, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to take this step in order to take the pressure off the team and the association in light of current events. It was an exciting time for me with many great experiences as the national coach."
The SFA has not yet disclosed the name of Grings' successor, viewing the coaching change as an opportunity to inject new energy into the team. SFA President Dominique Blanc commented, "The change in the coaching position is also an opportunity to provide new sporting impetus. We want to go into the future with our national team in the best possible position so that we can continue to capitalize on the positive mood for women's football in Switzerland."
Switzerland's upcoming fixtures in the Women's Nations League include hosting Sweden on December 1 and visiting Italy on December 5. Currently positioned at the bottom of League A Group four after losing all four games, the team is looking to regroup and improve its standing in the competition.
