Pochettino Confirms Caicedo and Mudryk for Chelsea vs. Burnley
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that both Moises Caicedo and Mykhailo Mudryk will be part of the squad for the upcoming Premier League game against Burnley, despite injury concerns that arose after their last match.
Mudryk had to be substituted at halftime during Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Fulham, while Caicedo suffered a knee injury and was replaced in the final minutes of the same game. Pochettino provided an update, stating, "Yes, both are in the squad, we will decide later whether they have a chance of starting. This week they trained well, I still have not decided. I need to check with the medical staff as I came straight from the training pitch."
Mudryk notably scored his first goal for Chelsea in the Fulham match, offering a much-needed boost to a team that had only managed five goals in their six previous Premier League games. Pochettino acknowledged Mudryk's progress, saying, "He is improving like all of the players. Every single player has special circumstances. In three months we try to help, to train, it's a big job to try to understand everyone and to apply things that we believe can help the individual to perform."
Armando Broja, who also scored his first goal of the season in the same game, is another player Pochettino is considering. Broja recently returned from a cruciate ligament injury and is showing promise. Pochettino commented, "He is a very talented player, we trust him, that's why he played against Fulham, and maybe tomorrow."
Regarding the decision between Broja and Nicolas Jackson for the Burnley game, Pochettino revealed that the choice has already been made but did not disclose it, stating, "We already took the decision and they know. You will see tomorrow."
Chelsea has yet to secure two consecutive league wins this season, but after victories over Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup, Pochettino is hopeful that the team can maintain their current form. He emphasized the importance of securing three points in the Burnley game and building momentum going into the international break.
"It's a good opportunity to win again and to feel the victory, and for us, the three points are important," he said. "Of course, we want momentum. We would go to the international break with a different feeling to the last one; it is really important to win the game."
Chelsea, currently 11th in the Premier League standings with eight points, will face Burnley, who are 18th in the standings with four points.
