Tottenham Hotspur has been dealt a blow as winger Manor Solomon faces a potentially lengthy absence due to a knee injury sustained during training, as confirmed by manager Ange Postecoglou on Friday.
The 24-year-old Solomon had been a notable presence in five out of Spurs' seven Premier League matches this season. However, Postecoglou now has to navigate upcoming games without the talented winger, including Saturday's Premier League clash against Luton Town.
Postecoglou expressed his disappointment, stating, "Manor Solomon unfortunately during training got a significant injury to his knee, he'll miss some significant game time over the next few months. That's disappointing because he was contributing for us already and growing into his role. With Ivan Perisic already down, it's not ideal when you lose a player in that position."
Despite this setback, there was more positive news regarding the condition of key players Son Heung-min and James Maddison. Both had been substituted early in recent games against Liverpool and Arsenal to protect them from lingering knocks.
"Everyone else from last week is okay. Sonny (Heung-min) is fine. He trained the last two days, no problem," reassured the manager. "Maddison has worked hard all week, he hasn't missed a session," he added.
Tottenham has enjoyed an unbeaten start to their league campaign and currently sits second in the standings, level on 17 points with Arsenal and one point behind leaders Manchester City. With a crucial clash between Arsenal and Manchester City looming on Sunday, a victory against Luton Town, who are in 17th place, on Saturday would temporarily propel Spurs to the top of the table.
However, Postecoglou emphasized that the focus is not solely on the standings. He stressed the importance of delivering a strong performance, regardless of the table position, to avoid any complacency, stating, "Our focus is on putting on a performance and playing at our best because if we don't, it won't matter where we're sitting on the ladder; it'll be us focusing on a poor performance."
