Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp revealed that their defender Andy Robertson is likely to undergo shoulder surgery following an injury sustained while playing for Scotland. The Scotland captain, a consistent presence in Liverpool's lineup for the season, was forced to depart from the national team camp after hurting his shoulder during Scotland's 2-0 loss to Spain in a Euro 2024 qualifier last week.
Klopp confirmed during a press conference on Friday that the decision is leaning toward surgical intervention for Robertson. He explained, "There was a small possibility that he could avoid it, but after consulting with numerous specialists, it appears that surgery is the most viable option, especially in the long run. This unfortunately means that he will be sidelined for a significant period."
Regarding the team's upcoming match against Everton, Klopp addressed the availability of forward Diogo Jota, who was previously suspended. Additionally, Klopp outlined a few squad uncertainties before the derby, stating, "Cody (Gakpo) has trained with the team once, so we'll have to assess his condition for tomorrow. Stefan (Bajcetic) is ruled out, as well as Thiago (Alcantara). Ben Doak is also dealing with a minor muscular issue and won't be available for the weekend."
Liverpool, currently standing fourth in the Premier League with 17 points, is aiming to secure a victory after a recent dry spell as they face Everton, positioned 16th in the league. Klopp acknowledged the strength of the opposition, emphasizing the return of key players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the experienced lineup of Everton. Despite the recent struggles of their rivals, Klopp stressed the importance of not underestimating their capabilities, citing their recent positive results and performances.
