Defending champions, Al Ahly of Egypt, have been drawn into a group for this season's African Champions League that puts them in a favorable position to progress to the knockout stages. In Group D, they will face Chabab Belouizdad from Algeria, Young Africans of Tanzania, and Ghana's Medeama, who are making their debut in the group stage.
FC Nouadhibou, representing Mauritania, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first club from Mauritania to reach the group stage of any African club competition. They find themselves in Group A, alongside another newcomer, Pyramids of Egypt. This group also includes two former winners, TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns.
