Fans of Sweden's Linkoping club and England's Arsenal demonstrated their support for Spanish player Jenni Hermoso prior to a Champions League qualifier. This gesture followed a controversial incident where Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish soccer federation, kissed Hermoso on the lips after Spain's Women's World Cup victory over England. FIFA subsequently suspended Rubiales for three months pending an investigation into the incident, which has been widely criticized as unwanted by Hermoso, her teammates, and the Spanish government.

Rubiales, however, refused to resign and maintained that the kiss was consensual, sparking a national debate on women's rights, macho behavior, and sexual abuse. The issue gained global attention.

Ahead of the match at Linkoping Arena, fans from both teams unfurled a banner reading "Se Acabo" (It's Over), a slogan used to show support for Hermoso. Arsenal fan Lulu Eude expressed frustration, noting that the controversy had overshadowed Spain's World Cup victory and that such issues often divert attention from women's sports.

Eude, along with fellow Arsenal fans Joanna Andrews, Tilly Grassick, and Nathalie van Hameren, chanted "Contigo Jenni" (We're with you Jenni) on their way to the stadium.

Tilly Grassick emphasized that Hermoso's significant sporting achievement had been overshadowed by the controversy. Rubiales defended his actions, describing the kiss as "spontaneous, mutual, euphoric, and consensual." He also stated his intention to prove his innocence during FIFA's disciplinary investigation. Meanwhile, Hermoso filed a criminal complaint, as confirmed by the national prosecutor's office.

Hermoso expressed her desire for a new organization free of sexism and with respect for all players, regardless of gender. She emphasized the need for gender equality within the new organization to bring her satisfaction.
