Olympique de Marseille Condemns Threats from Fans' Representatives
Olympique de Marseille has strongly criticized their fans' representatives following allegations that these representatives threatened the club's management and exerted pressure on them to resign during a meeting that took place on Monday.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, OM addressed the events of the meeting, stating, "Following a meeting held on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus Training Centre, representatives of the supporters' associations expressed their desire to see the current OM board resign. The threat of a 'war' against them was made, as long as they did not resign."
The club emphasized its commitment to maintaining a transparent and ongoing relationship with its supporters. They acknowledged that criticism is an essential aspect of representing OM, both on and off the pitch, and all members of the club, including players, staff, and management, understand and respect this aspect of their role.
However, OM made it clear that they cannot tolerate personal threats or any form of unfounded public defamation against their members. They stressed that a constructive relationship should not be built on intimidation, as it cannot guarantee the necessary minimum conditions for the club's board to continue investing in the ongoing transformation of OM.
In terms of their current performance, Marseille currently occupies the fourth position in Ligue 1, having secured two wins and three draws. Unfortunately, they were unable to qualify for the Champions League this season, as they were eliminated in the third qualifying round by Panathinaikos.
