Marco Reus's Second-Half Heroics Secure 1-0 Victory for Borussia Dortmund
Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund netted the decisive goal in the second half, securing a 1-0 triumph for his team against the formidable VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, in a match that was largely uneventful.
In the initial 45 minutes, Dortmund dominated possession, holding over 60%, but their efforts yielded minimal chances, with the exception of Marco Reus's exquisite free-kick, which forced VfL Wolfsburg's goalkeeper Koen Casteels to make a sprawling save to deny a goal.
Despite making six changes to the squad that suffered a 2-0 defeat to Paris St Germain in their Champions League debut just a few days prior, coach Edin Terzic was unable to instill a sense of urgency in his team during the first half.
However, Dortmund showed increased vigor after halftime, coming close to scoring through Julian Brandt. Eventually, it was Marco Reus who found the back of the net in the 68th minute, completing a move initiated by substitute Donyell Malen, securing the winning goal.
As a result of this victory, Dortmund has accumulated 11 points, trailing leaders Bayern Munich by only two points.
