Italy Faces Key Player Absences in Euro 2024
Gianluca Mancini and Matteo Politano will not be available for Italy's Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday. Coach Luciano Spalletti has made adjustments by including winger Riccardo Orsolini in the squad as a replacement, as confirmed by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
Mancini, a defender from Roma, is sidelined due to a thigh injury, while Politano, a forward from Napoli, is recovering from a calf injury sustained during their recent 1-1 draw against North Macedonia.
Adding to Italy's challenges, forward Federico Chiesa and midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini are also unavailable due to injuries sustained last week.
In light of the medical assessments, Coach Spalletti has made the decision to release these injured players back to their respective clubs, emphasizing the collaborative relationship between the national team and Italian clubs, as stated in FIGC's announcement on Sunday.
As of now, Italy holds the third position in Group C, accumulating four points from three matches. They trail behind group leaders England by nine points, who have played two more games. The Italian team is set to host second-placed Ukraine in Milan on Tuesday for the upcoming qualifier match.
