Inter Milan Faces Uphill Battle in Champions League Title Defense
Inter Milan's coach, Simone Inzaghi, expressed the difficulty of replicating their impressive run to last year's Champions League final as they prepare for their first match of this season's competition against Real Sociedad.
In the previous season, Inter reached the Champions League final but suffered a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in Istanbul, with the deciding goal coming from Rodri in the second half.
Inzaghi shared his thoughts, saying, "Last season's run to the final was a great journey; this year it starts again against a strong team. We will play it like last year, knowing that it will be difficult to repeat what we did, but that we want to try again."
Inter has had a strong start to the current season, winning all four of their Serie A matches and leading the table with a two-point advantage over Juventus.
Inzaghi highlighted how last season's experience has strengthened the team's mentality, stating, "It was a wonderful ride, without forgetting that difficult group that we had to overcome. Now comes the difficult part, but the boys know that by all working together, we can do excellent things."
On the other hand, Real Sociedad has had a less promising start to their domestic campaign, currently sitting in 11th place in LaLiga with just six points from five games.
Inzaghi acknowledged the challenge that Sociedad presents, saying, "They're a very organised team, with a coach who has been there for many years, with many players who have remained. The result cannot be predicted, we know that it will be a difficult, intense match because Real Sociedad are an intense team with excellent players, good, strong, technical. We will have to be good at helping ourselves and defending together, then attacking as a team."
Inter is placed in Group D, along with Real Sociedad, RB Salzburg, and Benfica, in this season's Champions League campaign.
