Harry Toffolo Gets Suspended Ban and Fine for FA Betting Violations
On Wednesday, the Football Association (FA) announced that Harry Toffolo, a player for Nottingham Forest, has received a suspended five-month ban and a fine of nearly £21,000 ($26,000) for acknowledging his involvement in 375 violations of the FA's betting regulations.
These infractions occurred during the period spanning from 2014 to 2017 when Toffolo was part of Norwich City and had loan stints at various clubs, including Swindon Town, Rotherham United, Peterborough United, and Scunthorpe United.
The FA stated, "Harry Toffolo of Nottingham Forest has been issued a five-month suspension, which will remain suspended until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, along with a fine of £20,956.22 for misconduct related to our betting rules."
The defender confessed to violating FA Rule E1(b) on 375 occasions between January 22, 2014, and March 18, 2017. An independent Regulatory Commission conducted a hearing and imposed these sanctions, with the Commission's detailed rationale for its decisions set to be disclosed at a later date.
During the 2022-23 season, Toffolo featured in 19 matches for Nottingham Forest, aiding the club in narrowly avoiding relegation from the top flight of English football. The 28-year-old also represented England's under-20 team, making six appearances between 2015 and 2016.
This development comes on the heels of another high-profile case in which Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney received an eight-month football ban and a £50,000 fine in May. Toney admitted to 232 breaches of the Football Association's betting regulations.
