Georginio Wijnaldum Joins Al-Ettifaq from PSG
Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum's transfer to Al-Ettifaq from French champions Paris Saint-Germain was confirmed by the Saudi Pro League club on a recent Saturday.
Although the specific transfer fee remains undisclosed, the 32-year-old midfielder is now a part of Al-Ettifaq, reuniting with former Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson under the management of Steven Gerrard.
This announcement followed Al-Ettifaq's 3-1 victory over Damac, a win that propelled them to fifth place in the standings with 10 points, just three points behind the leaders, Al-Hilal and Al-Taawoun.
Wijnaldum initially joined PSG in 2021, but his time at the club was marked by struggles to make a significant impact. Subsequently, he embarked on a loan spell with AS Roma. However, his progress was hampered by a leg injury sustained during training in August 2022, limiting his appearances to 23 games across all competitions for the Italian side. He later returned to Paris.
With the arrival of new PSG manager Luis Enrique, it became clear that Wijnaldum had no future with the French club, and the persuasion of former Liverpool captain Gerrard led him to make the move to Al-Ettifaq.
