Barcelona Secures Portugal Forward Joao Felix on Loan from Atletico Madrid
Barcelona has announced the signing of Portugal forward Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid on a one-year loan agreement. The player has also agreed to an extension of his contract with Atletico, which now runs until 2029. Joao Felix originally joined Atletico from Benfica in 2019 on a seven-year deal for a transfer fee of £126 million ($158.62 million), making him the club's most expensive signing at the time.
During the second half of the previous season, the 23-year-old forward was loaned out to Chelsea after falling out of favor with Atletico's manager, Diego Simeone. During his loan spell at Chelsea, Joao Felix made 16 appearances in the Premier League, contributing four goals. However, Chelsea opted not to make his stay permanent.
In his second season at Atletico, Joao Felix made 31 appearances in La Liga, scoring seven goals. His contributions played a crucial role in helping Atletico secure their first La Liga title in seven years. However, in the early stages of the current season, Joao Felix has not featured in any of Atletico's three games.
Joao Felix has a total of 131 appearances in various competitions for Atletico, with 34 goals to his name. He made his debut for the Portugal national team in 2019 and has participated in 31 international matches, scoring five goals. He represented Portugal in both the Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
Barcelona's move to secure Joao Felix on loan adds depth and talent to their attacking options, as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
