Ajax Amsterdam Parts Ways with Director of Football
Ajax Amsterdam has made the decision to part ways with their director of football, Sven Mislintat, with immediate effect, as confirmed by the Dutch club on a Sunday announcement.
Mislintat's tenure at Ajax was relatively brief, having been appointed in May as the successor to Marc Overmars. However, this appointment has proven to be short-lived and fraught with challenges.
Jan van Halst, serving as Ajax's interim CEO, expressed the rationale behind this decision, stating, "Several attempts to restore broad support have not led to the desired outcome. This leads to unrest in and around the club, also due to the disappointing results."
Ajax, a club that finished third in the previous season, currently finds itself in a troubling 14th position in the 18-team Eredivisie, having accumulated only five points from four matches. Their league campaign has been marred by a lack of victories since the opening weekend of the season, adding to their woes.
The situation further deteriorated on a recent Sunday when Ajax had to abruptly abandon their home Eredivisie game. The turmoil erupted as fans resorted to rioting when reigning champions Feyenoord surged ahead with a commanding 3-0 lead. This incident underscores the challenging circumstances surrounding Ajax's current season.
