The 2023 G20 Summit is scheduled to commence on September 9 at Delhi's Pragati Maidan, specifically at the Bharat Mandapam. The G20 was established in 1999 in response to the late 1990s financial crisis, particularly affecting East Asia and Southeast Asia. Its primary objective is to ensure global financial stability by actively engaging middle-income countries. Collectively, the G20 member nations represent a substantial portion of the world's demographics, with 60 percent of the global population, 80 percent of the total global GDP, and 75 percent of worldwide trade. This influential group comprises countries such as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates.

The conclusion of the 18th G20 Summit on September 10 will see the adoption of a G20 Leaders’ Declaration. This declaration will encapsulate the key priorities and commitments discussed in various ministerial and working group meetings held throughout the year.

In preparation for the Summit, the Delhi government has issued orders for the closure of all government offices and educational institutions within the city. Additionally, private offices that typically operate on Saturdays and Sundays have been directed to remain closed. Furthermore, commercial and financial establishments falling under the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Police District will observe closures during this period, including markets that typically experience high foot traffic on weekends. Security measures have been significantly heightened, with approximately 60 Deputy Commissioners drawn from various areas of the city, including specialized units, appointed to oversee and manage specific tasks related to the Summit. These responsibilities encompass security both within and around the Summit venue, the IGI Airport, designated hotels, sites designated for visits by spouses of delegates, and the traffic routes used by visiting delegations. Delhi Police has also implemented numerous restrictions and diversions and deployed around 10,000 personnel on the ground to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic in the capital.

As a crucial platform for international economic collaboration, the G20 plays a pivotal role in shaping and reinforcing the global framework and governance concerning all major international economic matters.
