Lionel Messi's eagerly anticipated debut in the 2023 MLS regular season has encountered a delay. This postponement comes in light of the joint announcement by Inter Miami CF and Charlotte FC that their original match scheduled for August 20th at DRV PNK Stadium has been rescheduled to a future date that is yet to be determined.

The decision to reschedule stems from the fact that both Inter Miami and Charlotte FC have successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Leagues Cup. Consequently, one of these two clubs will be engaged in a match on August 19th, contending for either the prestigious Leagues Cup Final or the Third Place match.

In the interim period, the quarterfinal match between Miami and Charlotte, slated for Friday, August 11th, at 8:30 pm ET, at DRV PNK Stadium, remains unaffected and will proceed as planned.

Lionel Messi's presence has been impactful in the ongoing Leagues Cup, a revamped tournament format featuring teams from both MLS and Liga MX. Additionally, fans can look forward to seeing him in action during the US Open Cup on August 23rd, as he joins his team in a semifinal clash against the leading MLS team, FC Cincinnati. Despite Messi's high-profile signing in mid-July, his debut in the MLS league has been delayed as he participates in various other competitions with his new club.

Presently, it appears that Messi's inaugural MLS match will take place on Saturday, August 26th, against the New York Red Bulls at 7:30 pm ET, providing an exciting prospect for fans eagerly awaiting his league debut.
