Double Blow for Real Madrid as Militao Joins Courtois with ACL Injury
Real Madrid has been hit with another blow as Eder Militao becomes the second player from the club to suffer an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury this week, following goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The LaLiga team revealed on Sunday that the defender would need to undergo surgery to address the injury.
Militao's injury occurred when he hyperextended his knee in the early stages of the second half during Real's triumphant 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in their LaLiga season opener. Overcome by pain and frustration, the 25-year-old defender was visibly emotional as he was assisted off the field.
The club issued a statement addressing the situation: "Following comprehensive assessments on our esteemed player Eder Militao, it has been determined that he has sustained a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Our player is scheduled for surgery in the forthcoming days."
Militao's predicament may see him sidelined for an extended period, mirroring the fate of Courtois, who also underwent surgery after sustaining a tear in the ACL of his left knee during a training session earlier in the week.
With Militao's untimely injury, Real Madrid now finds themselves with only three available center-backs as the new season kicks off - namely Nacho, Antonio Ruediger, and David Alaba. The team is faced with the challenge of navigating their campaign with this limited defensive roster.
