Chelsea Successfully Signs Brazilian Forward Deivid Washington from Santos
Chelsea has finalized the acquisition of 18-year-old Brazilian forward Deivid Washington from Santos, a confirmation made by the Premier League club on Thursday.
While exact financial terms were not unveiled, sources from British media have estimated the deal's value at 20 million euros (approximately $21.69 million). This sum encompasses performance-related add-ons, which would notably elevate Chelsea's expenditure during this transfer window to a figure exceeding 400 million euros.
Deivid Washington initially joined Santos in 2016 after transitioning from Gremio. The young talent solidified his commitment to the club by inking his maiden professional contract in 2021, when he was just 16 years old.
Taking a significant step in his career, Washington marked his senior debut in April of the current year. Subsequently, Santos extended his contract until 2026. Impressively, Washington has managed to secure two goals across nine appearances in the ongoing Serie A season in Brazil.
His transfer to Chelsea follows in the footsteps of Angelo Gabriel, another 18-year-old talent who made the move from Santos to the English club. However, Gabriel has since embarked on a loan journey to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.
