Yamila Rodriguez, the Argentine forward, has come forward to defend her decision to get a tattoo of Cristiano Ronaldo on her left shin. She clarifies that her admiration for the Portugal star does not mean she lacks appreciation for their World Cup-winning talisman, Lionel Messi.

The 25-year-old footballer, who also proudly displays a tattoo of Argentine legend Diego Maradona on her left thigh, faced criticism on social media for having Ronaldo's tattoo, considering he is Messi's great rival.

In response to the backlash, Rodriguez took to Instagram to address the issue, stating, "Please stop, I'm not having a good time. At what point did I say that I'm anti-Messi? I'm not having a bad time because of you (fans) but for the atrocities that are said, without mercy. Can't you have an idol or a player you like? Messi is our great captain in the national team, but the fact that I say that my inspiration and my idol is CR7 (Ronaldo) does not mean that I hate Messi."

Rodriguez expressed her view that having a tattoo of Ronaldo, who boasts over 800 career goals, should not be a problem, as he serves as her inspiration. She asserted that it is natural for football enthusiasts to appreciate and idolize players from different countries, not just limited to those from their own nation.

She urged people to understand that football is a sport where individual preferences and admiration for players coexist, and one player's appreciation does not diminish the value of another. She pleaded for the negativity and hurtful comments to stop, emphasizing the importance of respecting individual choices.

In the Women's World Cup group opener, Rodriguez made a late substitute appearance in Argentina's 1-0 defeat against Italy. The team looks forward to their upcoming match against South Africa on Friday.
