 Hoffenheim Signs Hungarian Defender Attila Szalai on Four-Year Deal

Hoffenheim announced the signing of Hungarian defender Attila Szalai from Fenerbahce, a Turkish club, under a four-year contract. The 25-year-old player previously joined Fenerbahce in January 2021 from Apollon Limassol in Cyprus. During his time with Fenerbahce, Szalai contributed to their success in winning the Turkish Cup in the 2022-23 season and securing the second position in the Turkish top flight, with Galatasaray clinching the championship.

Alexander Rosen, Hoffenheim's Managing Director, expressed the club's intention to strengthen their defense and praised Szalai's international capabilities. The specific transfer fee was not disclosed by Hoffenheim, but reports from German media suggest that the deal could be valued at around 12 million euros ($13.29 million).

In response to his move, Szalai stated that he had multiple options for his future in sports, but he deliberately chose TSG Hoffenheim because he had a strong desire to play in the Bundesliga. He firmly believes that this move is the right step forward for his career.

Having made his debut for the Hungarian national team in November 2019 during a friendly match against Uruguay, Szalai has since earned 35 caps for his country. He was also included in Hungary's squad for Euro 2020.
