At the age of 18, she conquered the World Cup. It is a unique dream come true for any footballer. However, for Colombian footballer Linda Caicedo, it is not just a story of fulfilling dreams but also a tale of a person who never gives up. She fought cancer outside the field and emerged victorious on the field.

In the Women's World Cup, Colombia defeated South Korea 2-0 yesterday, with Caicedo scoring the team's second goal in the 39th minute of the match. She has been hailed as the star player of the semifinal match. Comparisons have been drawn between her and famous footballers like Alex Morgan from the United States and Alexia Putellas from Spain. There are certain similarities in their playing styles. Assistant Coach of Colombia, Angelo Marziglia, described Caicedo as an extraordinary player who can lead and inspire her teammates.

This is Caicedo's third World Cup, and she has made significant contributions in all of them. She led her team to the final in the previous Women's Copa America, and even though they didn't win the trophy, she received the Golden Ball for her exceptional performances. Her goal in the semifinal against Argentina secured Colombia's place in the final. Caicedo said at that time, "I never thought I could play like this with the team. The coaches gave me confidence, and I believe I can help them on the field. I am still young, and I want to enjoy this first World Cup."

After giving her all on the field and displaying amazing dribbling skills, Caicedo was praised by many, including fans of Alex Morgan from the United States and Alexia Putellas from Spain. But it was clear that she stood out even among such top players. Caicedo began her football journey at the tender age of five, playing with boys. Playing with boys helped her develop her skills even further, and she expressed gratitude for that experience.

Caicedo's journey took a difficult turn in 2020 when she was diagnosed with cancer in her lymph nodes. She thought she might never return to football again. On April 15th of that year, she underwent tumor surgery and then underwent chemotherapy. Her mental strength, along with medical efforts, helped her return to training within five months. She spoke about her return, saying, "This problem is something I can overcome. I am an example of that."

Caicedo rose again and returned to the magic of football. In 2021, she won the Colombian league for the second time, this time with Deportivo Cali. Additionally, she was awarded the Top Scorer award in the Copa Libertadores Femenina held in Paraguay and Uruguay. 2022 was the most memorable year for her. After a fantastic performance throughout the year, Real Madrid signed her. She played ten matches for Real Madrid, scoring two goals and assisting in four others. And now, she has reached new heights with her participation in the World Cup.

All these experiences have shaped Caicedo's life at the tender age of 18. The path ahead is still long, and there is much to achieve. Perhaps, it all started with the World Cup dream coming true. Let's end this article with the words of her fellow forward, Lady Andrade, about Caicedo, "Linda (Caicedo) is not our future, but our present. She is a phenomenon."
