Heat wave kills at least 100 in Mexico, temperatures reach 50 degrees Celsius

Mexico is facing an intense heatwave this June. In the past two weeks, nearly 100 people have died due to the heat. Some parts of the country have reached temperatures close to 50 degrees Celsius. The Minister of Health of the country released this information on Thursday.
During the ongoing month of June, there has been a continuous heatwave in Mexico for three weeks. As a result, the country has experienced an increased demand for electricity. Several schools and college classes have been suspended to cope with the situation. The Minister of Health has informed that during the hot weather of the current month, the majority of deaths occurred between June 18th and 24th. Last year, one person died during this period.
According to a source from the Minister of Health, most deaths have occurred due to heatstroke. Several deaths have been caused by dehydration. 64% of the hot weather-related deaths have occurred in the northern state of Nuevo León, which is located near the Texas border. The remaining deaths occurred in Tamaulipas and Veracruz. Recently, the temperature in some parts of Mexico has decreased due to rainfall. However, the northern states are still scorching. On Wednesday, the city of Acuña in Sonora state recorded a temperature of 49 degrees Celsius.
