FIFA to Provide Massive Financial Compensation to Clubs for Participating in Qatar World Cup
For participating in the Qatar World Cup, FIFA will provide their clubs with nearly $2.3 billion (or 23,000 million) of which European clubs will receive 76 percent. English Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners Manchester City will receive approximately $46 million (or 460 million) US dollars, equivalent to around 500 million taka in Bangladeshi currency.
FIFA, the governing body of world football, earns the most revenue from the World Cup. Football players are primarily contracted with their clubs, and they take leave from the club for national team matches. To compensate the clubs for releasing players for international matches, FIFA provides financial compensation. The amount of money involved in the World Cup is quite substantial.
According to Reuters, for the players participating in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, FIFA will provide a total of $200 million (or 2,000 million) US dollars to the clubs, equivalent to around 27,207 million taka in Bangladeshi currency. Qatar had invited a total of 32 teams with 837 footballers. FIFA has allocated $10,950 per player per day. Four years ago, clubs received $8,530 per day for players in the Russia World Cup.
FIFA has stated that they will not consider the number of days played or the minutes played in the World Cup when calculating the financial distribution. The allocation of funds will be based on the number of players sent by each country. In this regard, not only the clubs during the World Cup but also those who have played for other clubs in the last two years will receive a share.
Regarding financial compensation from FIFA, English clubs will receive the most. The 46 clubs from England will receive more than $377.13 million (or 3,771.3 million). After that, there are clubs from Spain, Germany, Italy, and France. Among individual clubs, Manchester City will receive the highest amount. The players of the treble-winning club in the 2022-23 season will receive $4.596 million (or 45.96 million), while Barcelona will receive more than $4.538 million (or 45.38 million). Bayern Munich from Germany will receive more than $4.331 million (or 43.31 million).
Now the World Cup is approaching with 32 teams. From the 2026 edition, FIFA will involve 48 teams. Among them, according to the agreement between FIFA and UEFA, European clubs will receive $35 million (or 350 million) for the next two World Cups.
