Fernando Diniz Asserts Autonomy as New Brazilian National Team Coach, Ahead of Ancelotti's Arrival
The newly appointed coach of the Brazilian national team, Fernando Diniz, emphasized his autonomy and freedom to work without interference from Carlo Ancelotti, who will assume the position in the latter half of the following year.
During his introductory press conference at the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) headquarters, Diniz stated, "I will have full autonomy and there will be no interference." This came a day after he was named as Brazil's coach for the upcoming 12 months.
CBF President Edinaldo Rodrigues reiterated that Ancelotti, currently under contract with Real Madrid until the middle of the following year, will take charge of the Brazilian national team in the second half of 2024. Rodrigues emphasized that Ancelotti's arrival is definite, though the exact timing is yet to be determined.
In a previous announcement, Rodrigues confirmed that Diniz would work both with his current club, Fluminense, and the Brazilian national team. He mentioned that Ancelotti would assume the team's leadership from the 2024 Copa América, scheduled to take place between June 20th and July 14th in the United States.
Diniz inherits the Brazilian national team following recent defeats in friendly matches against Morocco and Senegal this year. In the latter half, he will oversee the team's first matches for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Expressing admiration for striker Neymar, Diniz did not dismiss the possibility of a partnership between Neymar and his former Santos teammate, Paulo Henrique Ganso, who currently plays under Diniz's coaching at Fluminense.
