Renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan shifts his focus to J. Robert Oppenheimer in his upcoming blockbuster movie, transporting viewers back to World War II when the American theoretical physicist spearheaded the development of the atomic bomb.

Drawing inspiration from Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin's 2005 biography "American Prometheus," Nolan's thrilling biopic "Oppenheimer" boasts a stellar cast including Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, and Cillian Murphy, who portrays the titular role of the man often referred to as "the father of the atomic bomb."

Speaking to Reuters in a joint interview with Murphy, Nolan shared, "Oppenheimer's story is one of the most dramatic narratives I have come across, with numerous captivating aspects. I wanted to immerse the audience in that world, to be in the room with these individuals as they faced the daunting decisions that have shaped the world we inhabit today... it truly is a remarkable dramatic event to present to the audience."

Oppenheimer led the top-secret Los Alamos Laboratory, established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of the Manhattan Project, with the aim of constructing the first atomic bomb. He supervised the first detonation of an atomic bomb, codenamed "Trinity," in the New Mexico desert, prior to the devastating bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Murphy, who has previously collaborated with Nolan, expressed his approach to the role, stating, "There is an abundance of information available about Oppenheimer... As an actor, my focus is on exploring the humanity, emotions, complexities, and moral dilemmas of the character. While I did delve into the physics to a certain extent, my primary goal was to portray the man himself."

Nolan is celebrated for his conceptual narratives and distinctive visual style in films like "Inception," "Tenet," and his contributions to the Batman film franchise. Reflecting on "Oppenheimer," Downey Jr. remarked, "It embodies the essence of every Chris Nolan film to date. It encompasses the profound statement he has been building up to while still delivering edge-of-your-seat entertainment. Being part of the production was mind-boggling, and watching the final product was even more surreal."
