According to British media reports on Sunday, Chelsea has reached an agreement to acquire Axel Disasi, the 25-year-old France defender, from Monaco in Ligue 1. The deal is valued at approximately £45 million ($49.58 million) and is seen as a move to provide cover for the injured Wesley Fofana, another French player.

With Disasi joining the squad, he is expected to compete for the center-back position alongside players like Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill. Additionally, Chelsea can look forward to the return of Benoit Badiashile from a hamstring injury early in the season, adding to their defensive options.

Unfortunately, Wesley Fofana is likely to miss a significant portion of the season due to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery he underwent in July.

On the international stage, Disasi has earned four caps for France and received his first call-up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He made his debut in the group stage match against Tunisia, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for France.

With the appointment of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea aims to improve their fortunes after finishing 12th in the standings during the previous season, their worst finish since 1994.
