Former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, who had a successful career in the NFL playing for teams such as New England, Houston, and Baltimore, has tragically passed away at the age of 35. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office reported that Mallett's death appeared to be the result of a drowning incident. The devastating news was also confirmed by the White Hall High School, where Mallett served as a football coach in his hometown of Arkansas, as they posted about his untimely demise on their website.

Expressing his condolences, Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek described Mallett as an extraordinary individual, stating, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and teammates of Ryan Mallett."

Mallett began his football journey at the University of Michigan before transferring to Arkansas to complete his college career. During his time with the Razorbacks, he showcased his talent by throwing for an impressive 7,493 yards and 62 touchdowns over two seasons.

In the 2011 NFL draft, Mallett was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round. Although his appearances with the team were limited, completing only 1 of 4 passes for 17 yards in four games during the 2012 season, his passing skills did not go unnoticed by head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick expressed deep sadness at Mallett's tragic passing, saying, "My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many people whose lives he touched."

Mallett continued his professional career, making starts for the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens. Despite facing challenges and recording 10 interceptions, he managed to complete 190 of his 345 attempts, accumulating 1,835 yards and throwing nine touchdowns.

The Baltimore Ravens, whom Mallett played for, paid tribute to him on Twitter, with coach John Harbaugh emphasizing his love for his teammates and his ability to cherish every moment on the football field. Additionally, J.J. Watt, a former teammate, expressed his grief, tweeting, "Horrible news to read about Ryan Mallett. Gone way too soon. Rest in Peace, brother."

Ryan Mallett Career

Ryan Mallett played college football at the University of Michigan and later transferred to the University of Arkansas. He had a successful college career, showcasing his strong arm and passing abilities.

In the 2011 NFL Draft, Ryan Mallett was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round as the 74th overall pick. He served as the backup quarterback for the Patriots behind Tom Brady for three seasons from 2011 to 2013. During his time with the Patriots, Mallett had limited playing opportunities but showed potential when given the chance.

In 2014, Ryan Mallett was traded to the Houston Texans, where he had an opportunity to compete for the starting quarterback position. He started six games for the Texans during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but he struggled to establish himself as a consistent starting quarterback.

After his tenure with the Texans, Mallett had brief stints with the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans again in 2017. However, he primarily served as a backup quarterback and did not see much playing time.
