Titan Submarine
Titan Submarine

In the early hours of April 14th of that year, the luxurious passenger ship Titanic sank after colliding with an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Approximately 1,500 people lost their lives. Over 111 years have passed since then. Starting from Monday, the Atlantic is once again shrouded in ominous dark clouds centered around the Titanic.

The remains of the Titanic still lie nearly four thousand meters below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. A tourism organization had undertaken an expedition to showcase the wreckage of the Titanic in a submerged vessel for tourists. However, starting on Sunday, the Titanic itself has gone missing. Although the exact number of passengers aboard the Titanic is still unclear.

Titanic had embarked on a journey from Saint John's, Newfoundland, nearly 600 kilometers away from the site of the Titanic's wreckage. According to the tourism organization's claim, there was enough oxygen inside the vessel for the five passengers to survive for four days.

The tourism organization has stated in a statement that all arrangements are being made to safely recover the passengers. The American Coast Guard has already joined the search for the missing vessel.

The expedition that set out to discover the Titanic was the third expedition of the submerged vessel.

The Titanic II is owned by the OceanGate Expeditions tourism organization. This 22-foot submarine is made of carbon fiber.

The dimensions of the Titanic II are 6.7 meters in length, 2.8 meters in width, and 2.5 meters in height. This submarine is capable of reaching depths of up to 4,000 meters in the ocean.

The weight of the Titanic II is 10,432 kilograms, and it can travel at a maximum speed of three nautical miles.

The interior of Titanic II houses 1,002 electric thrusters. It also features underwater cameras, 40,000 lights, and a robotic laser scanner.

Due to the limited space inside the submarine, the engine and electrical components are primarily located outside. There is a restroom inside the submarine.

Titan is controlled by a powerful station controller from outside the water. Although the submarine does not have any GPS, it is capable of exchanging information with the tracking team through the use of an "Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL)" system, as reported in various sources.

The cameras installed on the submarine are used to monitor the vessel's movements from above the surface of the water.

Titan has only one button (switch). Everything else is controlled through a "Touch Screen" and a computer.

This submarine can stay submerged with passengers for up to 10 days. However, currently, it is not possible in the case of Titan as it has less than three days' worth of oxygen.

According to BBC reports, the entire Titanic journey for tourists took a total of eight days. The price of each ticket was more than two crore Indian Rupees!

Among the discovered passengers is Hamish Harding, a 59-year-old British millionaire businessman. Just last Sunday, he announced in the media his plan to visit the remains of the Titanic.

Titan is made of carbon fiber and titanium metal. Engineers from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center collaborated with engineers from OceanGate to build this submarine.

During an interview, the CEO of OceanGate Expeditions, Stockton Rush, stated that Titan has the capacity to accommodate a maximum of five passengers. The submarine is capable of reaching the depths where the remains of the Titanic lie.

OceanGate was established by Stockton in 2009. Stockton was the world's youngest jet pilot. At the age of only 19, he became a jet pilot. In 1989, Stockton built an experimental aircraft called Glasair-3 through a personal initiative.
