Today, UEFA announced that Jose Mourinho will not be allowed to participate in the next four matches in the Europa League for his remarks about the referee. The 60-year-old Roma coach's suspension will be effective in the upcoming matches. In addition, European football authorities have also fined Roma as a club. The Italian club will not be able to sell tickets for their next away match in the European competition. They will also have to pay a fine of 55,000 euros.
Roma and Mourinho have been handed the punishment sword by the UEFA Europa League final incident. In the last week of the previous month, Roma faced Sevilla in the Europa League final in Budapest, Hungary. In the second half of the match, although the ball hit a defender's hand in the penalty box, the referee did not award a penalty, which angered Mourinho. As a result, English referee Anthony Taylor showed him a yellow card.
Later, in a video published on social media, Roma coach was seen making derogatory comments about Taylor, targeting him in the stadium parking lot. Subsequently, Roma supporters attacked Taylor and his family at the airport. One Italian citizen was also arrested in this incident. The English Match Officials Organization, PGMO, condemned such behavior towards Taylor.
Later, an official complaint was filed against Mourinho for using disrespectful or inappropriate language against Taylor. As a result, he has been given a ban today. UEFA has informed that due to the behavior of their supporters, Roma will also receive a punishment. Roma will play in the Europa League in the upcoming season. No Roma supporter will be able to get tickets for their first away match in the competition. Besides the ban, there will also be fines.
However, Roma's punishment does not end here. The club has been told to contact the Hungarian Football Federation within the next 30 days to mock the incident of vandalism by their supporters at the stadium.
In addition to the UEFA Europa League final, there were also allegations of misconduct by spectators in the UEFA Conference League final. UEFA has announced that West Ham-Forintina final, due to objects being thrown onto the field, one West Ham supporter will not be allowed to enter the gallery for West Ham's next European away match.
