Meta is bringing their mixed reality headset.
Instagram has unveiled its new mixed reality headset, Quest 3, on social media giant Meta. Soon after, there have been rumors about the much-anticipated AR/VR headset from Apple at their conference. Meta had already showcased their new headset before.
According to The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, revealed the first glimpse of this new headset on his Instagram account last Wednesday (June 1).
The price of the headset will start at $499. It is 40% slimmer than Meta's previous headsets. It features a feature called "Color Mixed Reality" that integrates various elements of augmented and virtual reality.
Meta has announced that the price of the previous Quest 2 headset will be reduced. Additionally, this headset will provide users with enhanced performance upgrades to offer a more immersive experience.
The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2023 will be held next month. Just like previous conferences, there will be announcements about new products in addition to the exhibition of multiple new products. This time, Apple's highly anticipated product, "Mixed Reality Headset," will be showcased.
According to 9to5Mac's report, the biggest highlight at the event will be Apple's Mixed Reality Headset. The usage of this headset will be demonstrated throughout this week-long conference. Insiders have revealed that if this new product fails to capture customers' attention at first, it will still pave the way for future development, including the iPhone. The headset will be available in the market in September.
Apple's headset will provide users with experiences in both virtual reality and augmented reality. Apple has also changed the name of its operating system for the headset. Previously known as "Reality OS," it has been renamed "XR OS," where "XR" stands for "Extended Reality."
The headset features Apple's M2 chip, which is on par with Mac-level performance. It has more than 10 cameras both inside and outside the device. Additionally, the headset boasts a display with higher resolution than any other headset available in the market. It incorporates two 4K Micro OLED displays.
For the headset, Apple has plans to create its own three-dimensional virtual world called "Metaverse." However, Apple is dissatisfied with comparing it to the metaverse concept. Greg Joswiak, Apple's head of marketing, stated, "I will never use the term 'metaverse' in our plans." Apple is also planning to launch a three-dimensional video service that will allow headset users to enjoy three-dimensional videos.
Apple is currently busy recruiting employees for this headset project. They are making efforts to bring back an engineer who left the company in early 2021. It is believed that the price of the headset will range between two and two and a half thousand dollars.
