"Messi did not receive the recognition he deserved in France."
After severing ties with beloved club Barcelona, Lionel Messi sought peace and joined PSG. The French champions had also planned to showcase their dominance in European football by adding Messi to their squad. However, neither side's hopes were fulfilled.
Ultimately, both parties reached a mutual agreement at the end of their relationship. Messi announced his departure from the club without signing a new contract with PSG. Just a few days ago, news broke that he expressed interest in joining Inter Miami, the seven-time Balon d'Or winner's possible destination. Soon enough, he will break the formal agreement with the Major League Soccer club. This turn of events has pleased Kylian Mbappé. The French star, unlike Messi, has not received the same recognition in France.
Mbappé also announced that he will not sign a new contract with PSG. When discussing his own contract, Messi's name came up during a conversation with Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport. The striker expressed his opinion, stating, "I don't understand why people are so thrilled about Messi leaving. He hasn't received the same recognition in France."
Mbappé's statement is indeed true. PSG supporters have never embraced Messi wholeheartedly. At various times during matches, a few hardcore supporters of the club have even booed the Argentine captain. There has been extensive criticism surrounding his trip to Saudi Arabia without the club's permission. Following this incident, even the hardcore supporters have had no tolerance for him and some even staged protests demanding his departure from the club.
Mbappé has played alongside Messi at PSG for two seasons. Based on his experience playing with the former Barcelona star, he has also hailed Messi as the best player and a phenomenal athlete. The 24-year-old star said, "He is one of the greatest players in the history of football. Messi's departure is never good news for a player like him."
