Jakarburg is bringing a rival platform to Twitter
Facebook's parent company, Meta, is planning to rival Twitter in response to their competitor's acquisition of Elon Musk, the world's richest person. According to BBC's report, Meta has announced this information through a reliable source.
There is ongoing discussion about dissatisfaction among users after Elon Musk bought Twitter. Many are looking to capitalize on this dissatisfaction. Twitter's co-founder, Jack Dorsey, has introduced an alternative platform called Bluesky. The name of the open-source platform Mastodon was also being discussed with enthusiasm. However, none of them have been able to provide such convenience.
According to BBC's report, Meta is planning to develop a text-based social network to compete with Twitter. This platform could provide Instagram users with an automatic option to share on this platform. It may also allow direct access to this platform from decentralized open-source platforms like Mastodon.
A spokesperson from Meta informed BBC that the development of the platform is underway. They stated, "We are considering creating an independent decentralized social network for sharing text. We believe that content creators and general users should be able to share their interests in a timely manner on such a platform."
Chris Cox, Meta's Chief Product Officer, said, "The coding work for the platform is underway."
Meta aims to release this platform, known as "Pineneedle 2," in the near future. However, they have not announced a specific date, although discussions suggest it may be released by the end of June.
Some screenshots of this platform have already been published online, primarily for internal viewing by employees. However, they provide a rough idea about the app. The authenticity of these screenshots has been confirmed by sources.
The text-based social network has been temporarily named "Pineneedle 2." It is hoped that it will become a larger rival to Twitter than Bluesky or Mastodon. Although it seems unlikely that it will attract a significant number of users from an established major social network, Meta believes that it can establish a new rival in the social network market.
According to Meta, Instagram currently has nearly 2 billion users, while Twitter has slightly over 300 million users. If even 25% of Instagram users are compelled to use Pineneedle 2 (once it is ready), it could easily surpass Twitter, and that is what Meta is hoping for.
