Information about the driver of the missing submarine at the bottom of the Atlantic
The tourist submarine in the North Atlantic Ocean has not yet been found. There is great curiosity about what is happening to the passengers inside the submarine named 'Titan.' There were a total of five passengers on board the submarine, among them was Stockton Rash, the owner of OceanGate, who was also in the driver's seat.
Stockton Rash is known as a nature lover and adventurer. He has an immense passion for exploring the deep sea. Alongside that, he has strict adherence to safety regulations.
In an interview with David Pogue, a CBS journalist in Stockholm, Sweden last year, Rash said, "Sometimes safety means sacrifice. I want to make it clear that if you want to stay safe, don't get out of bed, don't get in a car. Basically, don't do anything."
Rash received his Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from Princeton University in the United States in 1984. In an interview with Smithsonian Magazine in 2019, he said that he never dreamed of becoming an astronaut in his childhood because his vision was not good enough.
After completing his Bachelor's degree, Rash joined the McDonnell Douglas Corporation as a flight test engineer before moving to Seattle, Washington, to work for Boeing. In 1989, he received an MBA degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
For a long time, Rash cherished the dream of space travel. He thought about going to space as a tourist. However, in 2004, British entrepreneur Richard Branson announced the creation of Virgin Galactic for space tourism, which changed Rash's plans.
In 2009, Rash established OceanGate with the intention of increasing exploration in the deep sea through innovation. As the CEO, his work focused on financial and engineering planning. He also worked towards the development of the submarine's navigators.
Currently, OceanGate operates three submarines for research, filmmaking, and exploration. Among them, one submarine is used to explore the remains of the Titanic at a depth of 13,000 feet in the Atlantic Ocean. This eight-day expedition costs more than one and a half million dollars for each seat.
At the age of 61, Rash firmly believes that the ocean provides better opportunities for human survival than space. He also stated that the future of humanity lies beneath the water, not on the planet Mars.
There have been allegations against Rash regarding negligence and disregard for safety at OceanGate. The former director of marine operations, David Lujan, filed a lawsuit against him. In the lawsuit, Lujan claimed that he was unjustly terminated in 2018 for expressing concerns about the safety of Titan.
Another former employee of OceanGate, who requested anonymity, spoke about safety concerns. Their statement raised questions about the company's safety practices and policies.
