National Lineman Appreciation Day

Every year on April 18th, the United States observes National Lineman Appreciation Day to express gratitude for the crucial role that linemen play in maintaining electricity in our homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses. The history of this day can be traced back to the late 1800s when linemen were tasked with the dangerous and difficult work of installing and maintaining electrical lines and equipment. As our dependence on electricity grew over time, the role of linemen became increasingly important.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) proposed the concept of National Lineman Appreciation Day in 2013, and it was officially recognized by the U.S. Senate in 2014. April 18th was selected as the date to celebrate this day because it marks the anniversary of the IBEW's foundation in 1891.

Since then, National Lineman Appreciation Day has been commemorated annually by utilities, government agencies, and communities throughout the United States to honor the tireless efforts of linemen who often work in dangerous circumstances to ensure that we have access to secure and dependable electricity.
